ARTIST BIO


Dennis M. Hood (DMHood) was born in New York and now resides in Florida. DMHood began a teaching career in 1990 as a special education teacher in New York City. In 1993, he volunteered in the United States Peace Corps (Tunisia, North Africa), as an education specialist. After returning from his service, he began teaching in Orlando, Florida. In 2018, DMHood retired from teaching and opened an art studio to pursue his passion for painting and the creative arts. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions from 2021-2023.
DMHood completed his first artistic residency in October 2023 at Chateau Orquevaux in France. In April 2024, DMHood had his first solo exhibition titled: “Into Endless Skies” at the Credo/Conduit Gallery in Orlando, Florida. DMHood exhibited four large-scale abstract landscape paintings during Miami Art Week (Art Basel 2024) at the Miami International Fine Arts Gallery.
In June 2025, DMHood participated in his second artistic residency at the Watershed Studios in Galway, Ireland. His works have been recently juried into the Abstract National Exhibition in Wichita, Kansas and the National Multi-Media Exhibition in Wilson, North Carolina.
In August 2026, DMHood will exhibit in his first museum exhibition at the Holter Museum of Art in Helena, Montana.
